Bad news on the Hull FC injury front.

Hull FC have lost Sam Lisone to a bicep injury, with John Cartwright stating that the early prognosis doesn’t look good. The Aussie also confirmed that John Asiata will be out for longer after scans revealed that surgery is required to correct a hamstring injury.

The Black and Whites prop forward left the field before half time and didn’t return – and was seen sporting a sling in the second half. Lisone will now go for scans in the week to determine the full issue, but for now, it looks like another ‘bad’ injury for Hull – who were without ten players for Thursday’s game against St Helens.

Elsewhere, Matty Laidlaw also suffered a dead leg in the second half. The young prop did it tough but his knock isn’t thought to be too serious.

“It looks like Sam has torn his bicep,” Cartwright confirmed. “Laidlaw is a dead leg. There’s a bad one and a not so bad one so fingers crossed that the bad one isn’t that bad.

“Sam has had a lot of impact when he’s come onto the field. Losing him and not being able to bring him back out hurt us, but at the end of the day, we hurt ourselves more than anything.”

Meanwhile, Asiata will need surgery once again before rehabbing his latest hamstring injury. The loose-forward went down in the Good Friday defeat to Hull KR and will now go under the knife, extending his time on the sidelines by another month.

Asiata was already given a prognosis of around 12 weeks out, but that is now set to be around 16, ruling him out until August.

“He’ll need surgery,” Cartwright confirmed. “It could be around 16 weeks now.”

On those nearing their returns, Hull could welcome back Joe Batchelor from a back injury for the Castleford Tigers game next week, while Jake Arthur is ‘not far away.’ Herman Ese’ese and Jed Cartwright are still a month or so away.

“We are skinny in the front row,” Cartwright added. “Herman is still probably a month away, five weeks away. Jed isn’t far away – he’s probably four games or so away.

“We’ve got a bunch of goers here who have a crack, but just big genuine front rowers, we are down to just the two now.”
