The Black and Whites tried hard but they were ultimately second best

Hull FC were defeated 24-14 by St Helens on Thursday night. Here are the ratings.

Logan Moy – The young full-back’s third appearance of the season and he was superb. Scored the game’s first try and was largely solid under the high ball, before producing a terrific try saving tackle on Tristan Sailor in the second half. 8

Tom Briscoe – Did his job on the right wing and got involved. He’s had a good run in the team now and that one-year option in the club’s favour looks more like a ‘no brainer’ by the week. 6

Harry Newman – The on-loan Leeds Rhinos centre was a handful and broke out of some tackles before leaving the field with a HIA. He passed and looked to make inroads in the second half. 6

Davy Litten – A threat in the air and with his carries. A strong account. 7

Lewis Martin – Ran hard and largely solid under the high ball. 6

Cade Cust – Won a couple of penalties through his running game. 6

Aidan Sezer – A couple of strong defensive moments. Tried to link with Bell and co but couldn’t land the decisive blows in the second half. 6

Ligi Sao – Ran strong and a big part of Hull’s fair start. 6

Amir Bourouh – Scored a first half try and was a threat when carrying the ball. A good display. 6

Harvie Hill – First stint was decent. Second had an error or two he’ll be disappointed with. 6

Connor Bailey – Solid and did little wrong out on the right edge. 6

Zak Hardaker – Started in the back row, and then moved to centre before returning to back row. Assisted the first try with a superb offload and saved one at the other end with a vintage tackle. An error led to Saints final try but the pass to him was questionable. 7

James Bell – Started in the loose-forward role after a month of playing in the back row. Mixed it up. Did well. That link needs time with Sezer and co, but there were some promising signs. 7

Sam Lisone – Suffered an arm injury in the first half. Doesn’t look good. N/A

Yusuf Aydin – Back in the mix after an ankle injury and went well. 6

Brad Fash – Tenacious as he has been for every one of his 200th club appearances. 6

Matty Laidlaw – Couple of errors. A tough night for the young prop but kept going . 5
