An open and honest assessment from Hull KR captain Elliot Minchella.

Hull KR skipper Elliot Minchella has delivered a brutally honest verdict on his own form – admitting his 2026 season has been “hit and miss” as he chases consistency.

The Robins’ campaign has already been packed with drama. A shock opening loss to York Knights, a stunning World Club Challenge triumph over Brisbane Broncos, a whirlwind Las Vegas trip and a heavy defeat to Leeds Rhinos made for one of the most chaotic starts in recent memory.

However, three consecutive wins have put their campaign back on track, alongside a place in the Challenge Cup semi-finals as they look to defend their title.

Minchella missed the quarter-final victory over York with a minor hamstring issue but is set to return against Toulouse Olympique in Super League this week.

For the 30-year-old, the focus is now firmly on consistency – both individually and collectively.

“I’ve probably not been where I wanted to be in some games, but then some games have been good I suppose. I’ve probably improved – the Saints game and Hull FC were where I wanted to be. But before that, it was a bit hit and miss to be honest,” Minchella said.

“I’m trying to be more consistent – that’s what we’re chasing as individuals, and then if you do that, you tend to get a team performance that is consistent.

“I’ve got things to work on, but I don’t think there’s any panic within the team when things haven’t been going so well. You rely on some good old fashioned hard work and get your head down.”

Super League newcomers Toulouse have lost their last five matches after opening their return to the top flight with back-to-back wins over Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers.

But Minchella is wary of the threat they pose, with Hull KR set to travel in and out on the day.

“They’ve been impressive – I think they play a really good brand of rugby,” he said.

“The spine is great – Olly Ashall-Bott, Thomas Lacans has been good and then Cesar Rouge or Jake Shorrocks whenever he’s been playing.

“They move the ball around well, and they’ve been unlucky in some games not to come out on the right side of the result.

“We’re aware of their threat, it’s going to be a big game. It’s going to be tough, with a hostile environment no doubt, and we’re going to have to be on to get the two points.”
