Hiku will be sticking around at Hull KR

Hull KR centre Peta Hiku has penned a new deal to remain with the Robins beyond the end of the current season.

Hiku was in the final months of his old contract, but he has now put pen to paper on a one-year extension with the club, keeping him tied down until the end of the 2027 campaign.

It’s a boost for Rovers, who now have just a handful of contract decisions to make ahead of next year, with Sauaso Sue and Rhyse Martin being the most high profile pair still off contract.

Hiku has been with Rovers since the start of the 2024 season and after helping the club to the Grand Final in his first season, he played a key role in Rovers’ treble winning campaign. He also scored a try in the World Club Challenge earlier this season to help Willie Peter’s side secure world champions status.

So far he has made 74 appearances for KR, scoring 26 tries along the way, and now that his future is secure, he’ll be keen to add to that tally.

“I’m excited,” Hiku said on his new deal. “Ever since I’ve been here, Hull KR have been so welcoming, and it’s been an awesome club to be a part of.

“My family is happy here, and that’s what makes it an easy decision.

“I always knew I wanted to stay here. I want to go out there and play footy and enjoy it. Then come off the field and enjoy our fans and our club.”

Willie Peters won’t be at Craven Park to coach Hiku next season, but the head coach expressed his delight to the centre.

“Peta Hiku has been an exceptional signing for the club and thoroughly deserves this contract extension,” the head coach added.

“Peta is in our leadership group and has a big influence on the team, on and off the field, and he is a likeable character.

“I’m looking forward to working with Peta for the rest of the season and creating more memories as we have done over the last two and a half years.”
