Hull KR continue their Challenge Cup title defence away to Huddersfield Giants on Saturday.
After a disappointing start to the Super League season, Hull KR believe their win over Huddersfield Giants can be the launchpad for the rest of their campaign.
That’s the view of prolific winger Tom Davies, who insists the Robins are ready to kick on – with their defence of the Challenge Cup beginning this weekend.
Hull KR finally got their first Super League points of the year with a convincing 32-6 victory over Huddersfield Giants in round four, bouncing back from their Las Vegas humiliation.
The Robins ended a 45-year wait for major silverware last year when they lifted the Challenge Cup at Wembley. Davies grabbed the decisive late try in a dramatic victory over Warrington Wolves – a moment that sparked an incredible season.
Under head coach Willie Peters, Rovers went on to complete a stunning clean sweep of trophies, culminating in Grand Final glory.
But the start of 2026 has been far more chaotic. A demanding schedule that included the World Club Challenge and a trip to Las Vegas knocked their early Super League campaign off course.
Davies admitted the Huddersfield win was an important reset.
“We’re pretty pleased with it,” he said.
“Obviously Vegas wasn’t to our standards and it forced us to have a real look at ourselves. This was a step in the right direction, but there’s still things to improve on.
“The World Club Challenge was a big focus for us, but we’ve still got to uphold our standards no matter who the opposition is.
“We’ve not shown our best so far in Super League, but this was more like the performance we expect from ourselves. Now we’ve just got to build on it every week.”
Huddersfield are set to be without up to 14 first-team players for Saturday’s cup clash at the Accu Stadium.
Hull KR will also be missing utility forward Karl Lawton, who has been handed a three-match ban after receiving a Grade E charge for dangerous contact on Matty English.
For Rovers, however, the mission remains crystal clear: keep the trophies at Sewell Group Craven Park.
They opened their 2026 Challenge Cup title defence with a record 104-0 win over community club Lock Lane, and travel to West Yorkshire on Saturday.
“That’s our ultimate goal – we want to keep hold of the trophies,” Davies added.
“We’ve got to show our standards now. We’re building the season from here.
“The Challenge Cup is part of that. Huddersfield will regroup and we’ve got to make sure we come back with the same intensity.”
