The Lions gained revenge for their 3-1 defeat at The Den before Christmas with a battling MKM Stadium success
Alex Neil has become the latest rival boss to praise Hull City for what’s been an impressive season so far for a club that needed goal difference to avoid relegation to League One last season.
Neil oversaw a somewhat fortunate 3-1 win against City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, thanks to late goals from Mihailo Ivanovic and Josh Coburn.
The game will be remembered for a controversial moment in the first half when referee David Webb chalked off Kyle Joseph’s header after deciding Oli McBurnie had fouled goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
City remain firmly locked inside the top six, and face the side directly below them in the table, Wrexham, at The Racecourse on Tuesday night, looking to respond to successive defeats to Ipswich and the Lions.
At times this season, City have been criticised by opposition fans for their performances, with some suggesting they’ll fall away and be unable to sustain their challenge.

Like Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna before him, the Scotsman has come out in support of City and boss Sergej Jakirovic, saying he feels the Tigers are where they are on merit.
“I thought Hull were good,” Neil told Hull Live. “I think they are where they are in the league on merit for me. They’re one of the hardest teams to play against. They’ve done a number on us at our place, and I’m just glad we managed to get the victory.
“Listen, we’re not gonna harp on about this game too long because we know there are certain elements we can do far better than we did, but we’ve got the job done.
“We’re delighted we’ve got the points. What I will say, Hull have had a lot of criticism for different parts, which I think is completely unmerited this season. I think they’ve been very good, but they’ve won that type of game probably about five, six or seven times this year, so it was nice for us to be able to do that.”
