Tickets cost £1 and the prize hamper is worth £1,600

A woman has launched a fundraiser for children who have suffered the death of a parent serving in the Armed Forces. The raffle, raising money for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, offers the chance to win a prize hamper worth £1,600, including food, alcohol, experiences, and a signed Hull KR rugby ball.

Mollie, from Barton, said she was drawn to Scotty’s Little Soldiers because they do a lot of work for young people, but often get overlooked. The national charity helps children and young people aged 0 to 25.

Support is available whether the parent was serving or a veteran at the time of their death, and regardless of the cause – including through illness, accident, suicide, or while on active duty. Scotty’s also offers pre-bereavement support from the point a parent is given a terminal diagnosis and continues until the young person’s 25th birthday.

The charity was founded in 2010 by Army widow Nikki Scott, following the death of her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, in Afghanistan in 2009. Deeply affected by the impact on her children, Nikki created Scotty’s to ensure no bereaved military child ever feels alone or forgotten.

Explaining what drew her to Scotty’s, Mollie said: “They do some amazing work for children. They take them on holidays, try and help them once they’ve lost their parent. They offer coaching, mentoring, and support.”

Many local businesses have supported the raffle with generous prizes. Family days out to be won include Cannon Hall Farm, Flamingo Land, The Snow Centre, The Lost City Hull, Wensleydale Railway, and Trolleybus Museum.

Luxury items up for grabs are a Lenovo tablet, Google Pixel earphones, and designer sunglasses. For those who love a pampering, there are hair and beauty treatment vouchers.

For foodies, the hamper includes vouchers for restaurant, pub and carvery meals. There is also wine and prosecco in the bundle.

The second-place prize in the raffle is a £50 Morrisons gift card. Third place is a £10 M&S gift card.
