Seven airports including Heathrow and Gatwick have changed their hand luggage rules
Holidaymakers are advised to verify hand luggage regulations at their departure airport, as requirements vary considerably across UK terminals. While some have abolished the 100ml liquid restriction, others continue to enforce it.
For many children across the UK, it is now the half-term holidays. With this, some families across the country will be jetting off abroad. Prior to departure, it’s advisable to confirm your airport’s baggage regulations, as these differ from location to location. According to The Times, London Heathrow has removed the 100ml liquid restriction for carry-on baggage, mirroring changes already implemented at Gatwick, Birmingham and Edinburgh airports.
Conversely, London Stansted, Luton and Manchester airports continue to maintain the 100ml liquid restriction. Under this regulation, travellers are permitted only 100ml containers of liquid in their carry-on luggage.
These liquids must also be extracted from your bag prior to passing through security scanners. Where the restriction has been lifted, passengers may carry up to two litres simultaneously, which needn’t be separated from other belongings.
The changes follow the deployment of advanced CT scanning technology at airport security checkpoints, which additionally permits travellers to keep all electronic devices packed away.
Nevertheless, certain airports equipped with these scanners retain the 100ml restriction, making it essential to verify individual airport requirements before your journey.
