It has been a busy start to the year with some very serious court cases being heard, particularly towards the end of January. The month started with the jailing of a young man who was cleared of murder after a high-profile trial but has now been locked up for drug dealing.

Other cases included a violent bully who left his victim with a fractured eye socket and a broken nose and an aggressive boyfriend who strangled and punched a woman. More recently, a mother and father who cruelly neglected their injured baby child were also both locked up.

Two high-level cocaine suppliers who served users in the Beverley area were also jailed. Two violent women and a lorry driver who smuggled 95kg of cocaine, potentially worth £7.6m on the streets, into Hull Docks were also locked up.

The very end of the month saw the most horrific case, featuring a young thug who attacked a teenage girl so savagely that she lost her unborn baby. These are some of the cases that have been heard at Hull Crown Court during January.
