Yorkshire Water said it is on site working to repair damage caused by winter weather

Yorkshire Water has apologised to residents on a Hull street after winter weather triggered leaks from a section of water main. Residents on Shannon Road in Longhill, East Hull, say they have endured six days of water pressure issues, with some left with no hot water and no heating when the region was hit with sub zero temperatures and arctic snow blasts.

A resident told us how they have been unable to switch on their heating and had periods of time with no water at all since last Thursday. They say they have been told works to a water main will be completed before the end of this week.

The resident said: “An update from Yorkshire water tells us it will be done by Friday which is making us having over a week of no proper running water! Since last Thursday the whole of Shannon Road has experienced low water pressure, no hot water and in some cases no water at all.

“The heating has not been able to be turned on due to it taking ages to warm up and not fully heating up. There have been seven reported leaks around the estate and there are cones placed around the water but no work has been completed.

“On multiple occasions we and others across the street have contacted Yorkshire Water. They are saying they ‘are dealing with it’ and we’ve been promised it will be working on the night time but this never happens.

“A whole estate has been affected by this and we have not been informed, apologised to or updated on the progress. Yorkshire water is not cheap and we are not listened to.

“We’ve had lukewarm water, no shower and no heating on since last Thursday. We have to be grateful we have some kind of water but it’s the response we are getting from Yorkshire water that has made me raise this.”

After calling upon Yorkshire Water for an update, the utility supplier apologised for the inconvenience and said it was working to replace a section of water main.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “We are aware of a number of leaks leading to low pressure for a number of properties in the Shannon Road area of Longhill, East Hull and are currently on site working to repair and replace a section of water main.

“Periods of low temperatures followed by much warmer weather can often lead to an increase in leaks as frozen ground shifts when it thaws, causing pipes to move and potentially fracture. We’d like to apologise for the inconvenience and thank those in the area for their patience whilst we carry out this important repair.”
