Mission Christmas children’s charity gift drive – all the event details

  • A special community event is taking place today, Wednesday December 17, to support Mission Christmas, after a local family business announced it was teaming up with the toy drive. Organised by Bauer Radio charity Cash for Kids, Mission Christmas is taking place right across the UK, with 19 headquarters in all collecting gifts, including one based here in Hull on behalf of Cash for Kids East Yorkshire, Yorkshire Coast and Lincolnshire.
  • Car wash company Spear Services, with help from Megan and Matt, are going to host the festive gift drop-off day at the charity’s Mission HQ for the day. The charity is encouraging local residents, businesses and community groups to come down, support the event, and help ensure that no local child wakes up without a gift this Christmas. The aim of the event is to help ensure that more than 3,000 local children aged seven and over wake up to a present on December 25.
  • The event – called Mission Christmas: Festive Drop & Pop! – was created after the staff at Spear Services visited the Mission Christmas HQ last week and saw first hand how many local children are still in need, particularly those aged over seven, and how few gifts remained.
  • The car wash company got involved with Mission Christmas when they saw the urgent post of looking for somewhere to host the HQ this year. As a result, they have given up the majority of their office space to allow organisers to ensure Mission Christmas can still run this year.
  • So today, December 17, Mission Christmas HQ, will be hoping for hundreds of drop-offs art its base from 9am to 4pm. The address is Spear Services on Littlefair Road, Hull, HU9 5LP. The doors will be open throughout the day for gift drop-offs, with a DJ providing festive music, food, and a selection of treats to be raffled off to thank supporters who come along.
  • Spear Services is a long-standing supporter and charity champion of Cash for Kids East Yorkshire, Yorkshire Coast and Lincolnshire, quickly put their community connections to work and organised an official drop-off day to help close the gap. The charity said the company has gone above and beyond with the help they have provided with all members of staff helping and when they can.
  • Laura, charity fundraising executive for Cash for Kids East Yorkshire & Yorkshire Coast, said: “Mission Christmas is incredibly close to my heart, and the generosity we’ve seen from the local community has been overwhelming. However, we still have over 3,000 older children who need our help, and events like this are absolutely vital.”
