‘This investment creates genuine opportunities here in Hull’

Workers at a Hull maker of bathroom pods are set to deliver new facilities for the first British-owned nuclear power station to be built in 30 years. Modular Systems Ltd says job opportunities will flow from its contract to provide the pods for Sizewell C, the £38bn power plant currently under construction on the Suffolk coast.

The firm will produce a series of prefabricated pods for the plant’s Accommodation Campus which will provide high-quality space for the construction workforce delivering the landmark development. Modular Systems, which employs at least 25 people, has won the work from McLaren Construction which is managing the building of the campus.

Bosses said the project is an “exciting opportunity” for their business, and also for the wider Hull and Humber region. They have promised to expand an apprenticeship programme in partnership with Hull College and create additional skilled jobs in manufacturing, engineering, quality, logistics and technical design as production ramps up.

Chris Marsden, commercial strategy and sales director, said: “Securing this opportunity is a significant achievement for Modular Systems and a testament to the hard work, commitment and professionalism shown by everyone across our business. We are proud to be working with McLaren Construction to manufacture and supply prefabricated bathroom pods for the Sizewell C Accommodation Campus, contributing to a project of national importance.

“Beyond the project itself, this investment creates genuine opportunities here in Hull. It enables us to expand our apprenticeship programme in partnership with Hull College, create additional skilled employment opportunities and continue investing in our people, our manufacturing capability and our city.
