The Robins can book their play-off spot this evening
Hull KR boss Willie Peters still has belief that his Robins side can end the season on a high at Old Trafford.
KR have the ability secure their spot in the Super League play-offs this evening as they take on Huddersfield Giants in what will almost certainly be their final game at Craven Park this season.
Rovers need a big in results elsewhere to even stand a chance of securing a home play-off tie, meaning the likelihood is that this evening’s fixture will be Peters’ last in east Hull.
Given how their title defence has gone this season, the odds are stacked against KR being able to mount a serious challenge for Grand Final success over the coming weeks.
Peters knows his still side have the potential to do it, though, and he’s asking his players to put everything they have into the remaining games they have.
“For us now, the evidence has been there that we can do it,” Peters said on the possibility of his side reaching the Grand Final.
“We’re in a situation now that we’re still fighting to get in the six. That’s our priority and we need to make sure that we win this weekend to give ourselves a chance and then we’ll look ahead off the back of that.
“What I do know about this group is when it’s time to fight for each other and stand up, stand up for your fans, stand up for your community. They’ve done that over and over. There’s been some times this year that we’ve had performances that we haven’t been proud of and accept that.
“We want to finish this year and get to the highest possible point and that hasn’t changed. That’s winning silverware. I’ve never shied from saying that and that’s what we still want to achieve but we need to make sure we’re there first.
“The most important game is this week. I feel that there’s enough evidence there over the course of four years that we can draw a lot from. There’s enough to draw from this year, as well in certain times even though we haven’t reached the heights we were last year.”
However this season ends, Peters knows he is in the final weeks of his time in charge of the Robins and he will use tonight’s game as the stage to say farewell to those fans who have supported him.
“I don’t like being emotional, but sometimes you can’t help it,” he said.
“As I say, I just want to make sure that we go out and make sure we play and put in a performance that we’re all proud of and our community are proud of. That’s all we’ve ever wanted to do and achieve is make them proud. The moment you do that, we’ve had success along the way.”
