All Out Rugby League Back 10’s Paul Cooke took issue at St Helens ‘over-celebrating’ their victory at Wakefield Trinity earlier this month, with the former Hull and Hull KR half-back now stating that his old club followed suit away at Catalans Dragons this Saturday night.
The Black and Whites ran out 27-26 winners in Perpignan after a thrilling comeback win, with Richie Myler and Andrew Thrikill opting to watch the game with the away crowd. The players also posed for a team photo post-match after some emotional celebrations after what was just the club’s seventh Super League win of the year.
Co-host Kyle Amor joked that Cooke is becoming rugby league’s ‘Roy Keane’ in his assessment after stating: “It’s just not for me. I just think, ‘Get on with your job. Keep your backside up and your nose to the ground.’
“I know it’s a thank you to fans that have stuck with them all season. Six weeks ago they wanted Richie Myler’s head. He’s now banging drums in the crowd with the owner.
“It’s just not for me as a player and as a coach. I would just rather get on with my job and keep my head down and my backside up.”
Hull sit 11th in the Super League table after victory at Catalans and face Warrington Wolves in their final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon. They have failed to record back-to-back wins since March, defeating both Leeds Rhinos and Catalans at the MKM Stadium.
Interim coach Andy Last has already banged the attitude drum ahead of the clash, with Hull consistently inconsistent this season – a reality that has seen them lose 17 of their 24 Super League games so far.
“I’ll be talking about attitude and the pressures of privilege, playing in front of a big crowd who will all be expecting a strong performance,” Last said after the game. “We showed the true Hull FC tonight, and now we want to put out our best performance in our last home game against a very good team in Warrington.”
