Elicia Brent, a vet at South Lincs Vets in Holbeach, said neutering helped control the population and protected cats from certain cancers and infections.
According to the practice, the operation typically costs about £100 for a male cat and up to £200 for a female.
Brent said the team was “very passionate” about encouraging the procedure and often carried it out at a loss to keep costs down for owners.
“Cats can reproduce so quickly and so often, that’s why its such a big issue.
“They’re sexually mature from four months old.”
Brent said even indoor cats could escape or go missing, leading to unplanned litters, and feral cat colonies were a concern across Lincolnshire.
“I think people sometimes don’t understand the impact one un-neutered male cat can have. That cat can go out and father hundreds of kittens.”
