Hull FC will play a Super League game in Dublin next year – and it may not be their last.
Hull FC will take on St Helens in Dublin next year.
Richie Myler doesn’t see Hull FC’s trip to Dublin next season as a one-year event and has backed rugby league to keep on tapping into the Irish capital in the future.
The Black and Whites will take on St Helens on Sunday, 25 April, at the home of Leinster Rugby, with Wigan Warriors meeting Warrington Wolves the day before.
And like the NFL, which has used Wembley Stadium for the last several years and now Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Myler wants to see the sport head back to Dublin year after year.
Hull are committed to doing just that should the opportunities open up, with Myler, who has Irish heritage and who played for Ireland during his playing career, backing Super League to make a fist of the capital city.
“Dublin is such a fantastic city to go to and experience and they are fanatical about sport,” Myler said. “A lot of the work has been done by Wigan and Warrington and Kris (Radlinski) and Karl (Fitzpatrick) in organising it, but I’m excited to be a part of it.
“I don’t see it as being a one-year event. I think this could be a really exciting time for the game and it could be the start of a series of matches in Dublin. I hope it is. But I’m excited to be part of something new.”
Outlining why the club chose Dublin over Las Vegas, Myler continued: “What excited me about Dublin is geographically it’s much more attainable and achievable for us. I think the Vegas concept has been fantastic but for where we are as a club, it just wasn’t the right time for us to do it.”
The trip to Dublin comes one week before the 2026 Magic Weekend, to be staged at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium once again.
“Our fan base is unbelievable for travelling,” Myler added. “We’ve seen it in our darkest moments in the last two seasons; they still turn up in their numbers. I know they will travel. The pre-interest numbers are high. Hopefully, it will be a successful event.”
