The disciplinary outcome from Tuesday night’s Super League fixture between Hull KR and Warrington Wolves will not be confirmed until Monday, All Out Rugby League can confirm.
Sam Burgess’ Warrington claimed a 34-28 victory at Sewell Group Craven Park in the rearranged Round 2 fixture, which was postponed due to Hull KR’s involvement in the World Club Challenge back in February.
A number of players will be sweating on potential disciplinary charges following the fiery contest, but any resulting suspensions would not take effect until after this weekend’s Super League Round 24 fixtures.
Most notably, Mikey Lewis could be in hot water once again following the controversial incident that saw him sin-binned late in the contest.
The livewire half-back was only making his return from a four-match suspension after being found guilty of headbutting at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in July.
Lewis marked his comeback with a try but was later sent to the sin-bin for dangerous contact with Warrington’s Ewan Irwin after leaping to charge down a kick.
Rovers head coach Willie Peters was quick to defend his No.6, insisting there was no malice in the challenge. However, opposition head coach Burgess was left unimpressed by the challenge, labelling it ‘very dangerous’.
Given Lewis’ previous disciplinary record and current penalty-point tally, any charge could result in another suspension at a crucial stage of the season.
Lewis will be available to face Toulouse Olympique at home this weekend before any potential punishment takes effect.
Powerhouse prop Sauaso Sue could also be facing a nervous wait after his contact with James Bentley in the first half, for which he was penalised.
The 34-year-old avoided a card on the field, but the incident could still be referred to the Match Review Panel when the disciplinary process takes place.
