Andy Last has confirmed that Hull FC centre Davy Litten has a minor ankle ligament injury – but stopped short of confirming or denying recent reports that the outside back is set to move to Wakefield Trinity next season.
Love Rugby League reported on Tuesday that both Hull and Wakefield have accepted a six-figure transfer fee for Litten, who is under contract for the 2027 season. The report states that the player is now agreeing to personal terms with Wakefield and, if finalised, will move to the West Yorkshire club ahead of next year.
However, Last did state that he’d be surprised if it was Litten who instigated the move, with Wakefield understood to have had previous bids rejected after turning their attention to the Hull academy product following a failed move for St Helens star Harry Robertson.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference this Wednesday afternoon, Last said: “Unfortunately, Davy has got a grade one ligament tear in his ankle. He should, if all goes well, be available for next week. It’s just dependent on how he responds to the treatment.”
On the links to Wakefield, Last continued: “I can’t tell you anything about that. I’ve had nothing from the club to confirm or deny that. I don’t want to speculate.
“I’d be surprised if it was Davy who instigated it but like I said earlier, I can’t comment on Davy. I’m sure as and when the club wants to announce the confirmation with regard to Davy, they will.”
Last also confirmed that Herman Ese’ese will return to the Hull side at St Helens on Thursday night, with the prop having been absent for the Huddersfield clash last week due to viral tonsillitis.
“He’s okay,” Last said. “He trained over the weekend. The meds did their work. He’s had a good week’s practice and he’s quite clear on where he needs to improve. We’re looking forward to a big performance from Herman.”
Ese’ese is under contract at Hull until 2030 but is another player who has been speculated with a move away from the club. Asked about that speculation, Last added: “Again, I can’t confirm or give you any clarity on that.”
