Hull City winger Abu Kamara is closing in on a permanent return to Portsmouth.
Kamara is expected to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of his switch to Fratton Park, in a deal thought to be worth in the region of £2.5m.
Hull Live reported earlier this summer that Pompey were working hard to secure a deal for the winger, who enjoyed a fine loan spell on the South Coast a couple of seasons ago to help them win the League One title.
Pompey had been keen to bring their former loanee back for a period of time, but now it looks like they will finally land their man on a long-term deal.
Charlton Athletic had thrown their hat into the ring in a bid to lure Kamara back to his native London, but were unable to match Pompey’s offer.
City signed Kamara on deadline day back in 2024 from Norwich City, but the 23-year-old struggled to make a huge impact at the MKM Stadium, and spent last season on loan in Madrid with Getafe, though he only managed 12 appearances because of injury.
He returned to City at the start of pre-season, and scored in the 3-0 win over Konyaspor in the Tigers’ first summer outing in Slovenia, and played in the subsequent games with Rizespor and Kasimpasa.
During his two-year spell at City, Kamara played 40 times, scoring five goals with two of those coming in a pulsating 3-3 draw with Leeds United, just two days after being part of a bizarre pre-match press conference with then boss Ruben Selles.
