The Care UK homes will welcome families and neighbours to their food celebrations

With festival season firmly under way for the summer, three care homes in the Hull area are welcoming in friends, family and neighbours for a fun-filled day of food and celebration. Guests will be invited to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
In the East Yorkshire area, the first event was held at Magdalen Park, in Magdalen Lane, Hedon, on Sunday, August 2, at 11am. The next two events are:
- Tranby Park, in Heads Lane, Hessle, on Tuesday, August 4, at 2.30pm
- Primrose House, in Bluebird Way, Brough, on Saturday, August 8, at 11am
At each of the events, visitors to the homes can look forward to sampling a selection of residents’ favourite cuisines and dishes from around the world, all prepared by the homes’ head chefs using local ingredients. Tranby Park resident, Pam, said: “I really enjoy the food at Tranby Park and the chef is always trying to accommodate our changing taste buds, we can’t wait to see visitors in the home so we can show it off!”
The event is part of the A Taste of Home initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like. Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Emma Medici, home manager at Tranby Park, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival. We are part of a strong community here in Hull and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.
“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.” Each home offers full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
The homes incorporate plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, while the layout of the buildings are configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
