Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club is hosting a free taster event, open to full-time wheelchair users of all ages who want to try the sport and meet the region’s only powerchair football club

People with physical disabilities from across Hull & East Yorkshire are being invited to experience the excitement of powerchair football in a free taster event that aims to provide access to sport. The sport is a way to build confidence, make friends and be part of the region’s only club.
Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club, known as the Electric Eels is the region’s only powerchair football club. It is inviting people of all ages with a physical disability who are full-time wheelchair users or use a wheelchair as a mobility aid to come to a free “Try Powerchair Football” event. The event will be on Tuesday 18 August from 3pm to 7pm at the Allam Sports Centre, University of Hull. No previous experience is required, and all specialist equipment will be provided.
Founded in 2012 with just six players following a series of taster sessions, the Electric Eels now has more than 15 members competing nationally and regionally while also providing opportunities for recreational participation and social connection. The event aims to introduce more disabled people to the sport while highlighting the positive impact powerchair football has on confidence, friendships and wellbeing.
Kai Gill, marketing and communications officer at Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club, said: “Powerchair football is much more than a sport. It’s an opportunity to make friends, build confidence and become part of a welcoming community. We’d encourage anyone who thinks they might be interested to come along and give it a try.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet players and coaches, try specially designed powerchairs and learn about the sport. People can ask questions in a relaxed environment and learn more about why the Electric Eels enjoy powerchair football so much.
