Portsmouth’s sporting director Richard Hughes admits the Championship club are working to try and find a solution to prise Abu Kamara away from Hull City.
Hull Live reported earlier this summer that Portsmouth were keen on bringing the winger back to Fratton Park, where he enjoyed a terrific loan spell before his big-money move to the MKM Stadium in the summer of 2025.
Kamara‘s spell at City hasn’t worked out quite how he’d hoped, and he moved to Spanish La Liga side Getafe last season on loan, before his campaign was hampered by a foot injury.

The winger, who celebrated his 23rd birthday last week, is currently part of Sergej Jakirovic’s squad at City’s pre-season training camp in Slovenia, and played and scored in Saturday’s comprehensive 3-0 win over Konyaspor, and it’s expected he’ll play on Tuesday night against Rizespor in Maribor.
Portsmouth want to strike a permanent deal for Kamara, while Charlton Athletic are also keen on giving Kamara a chance to return to London, and could gazump the Blues. Portsmouth have held discussions with City over a permanent move for the ex-Norwich City youngster, and it’s thought the two parties are not too far away on their respective valuations, but the Addicks interest has complicated matters.
“We understand the excitement (from fans) on that one with Abu,” he told BBC Radio Solent. “I think – as we’ve alluded to – it’s something that has always been of interest to the club.
“What we have to do is respect Hull’s position, their pre-season and their head coach. But as people can probably understand, it’s something that we would be interested in. We just have to find the right way of trying to reach an agreement on that and getting everything moving forward.”
