A day of action recently took places targeting a number of businesses in the region
Illicit tobacco products worth thousands of pounds on the market have been seized in East Yorkshire. Officers from East Riding Of Yorkshire Council ’s trading standards raided six businesses in the area during a recent day of action.
Assisted by Humberside Police and other partner agencies, they found 17,420 cigarettes and 20.3kg of hand-rolled tobacco. The tobacco products were counterfeit or not made for the UK market, with a retail value of £9,227.
They were found in multiple locations, including in under-counter concealments, behind panelling and in outbuildings. The products were contrary to the Tobacco Related Products Regulations 2016, the Standardised Packaging of Tobacco Products Regulations 2015, and the Trademarks Act 1994.
Councillor Lyn Healing, cabinet member for communities and public protection, said: “We are committed to taking firm action against illegal trading activity, and we encourage residents to report any such activity to the relevant authorities.”
Residents can report the suspected sale of illicit cigarettes, tobacco and vapes confidentially by calling Citizens Advice consumer service on 0808 223 113 ( www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/ ), or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 ( www.crimestoppers-uk.org )
