East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Trading Standards team seized the goods at Strawberry Fields car boot sale in Bridlington

Counterfeit and unsafe goods, including toys subject to a product recall, were seized at a Bridlington car boot sale earlier this month. Fake Apple products and counterfeit perfumes were also confiscated. East Riding of Yorkshire Council ’s Trading Standards team seized the goods on Thursday 2 July at Strawberry Fields car boot sale.
The team identified and removed a variety of products that could have posed a risk to consumers, including counterfeit toys and imitation branded goods. At one stall, officers seized a number of unsafe and counterfeit toys, including Needoh products, Labubu Dolls and Squeezy Dumplings.
Some of the Squeezy Dumplings seized were subject to a national product recall after being identified as presenting a serious chemical risk. The recalled products contained substances which could pose a danger to children and should not be sold or supplied to consumers.
During the same operation, officers also seized a range of suspected counterfeit goods from a second trader. Items included imitation high-end perfumes and counterfeit Apple-branded products.
The operation has highlighted concerns about the sale of unsafe and counterfeit goods, particularly toys and children’s products. East Riding Trading Standards officers intend to carry out further inspections at car boot sales, markets and other retail outlets across the East Riding. They aim to identify and remove unsafe products from sale and protect consumers.
Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Protection, said: “Consumers have a right to expect that the products they buy are safe and genuine. Counterfeit and unsafe goods can present significant risks, particularly when they are aimed at children. We will continue to work proactively to identify and remove these products from sale and take appropriate action against those responsible.”
East Riding of Yorkshire Council reminded residents to exercise caution when purchasing goods from markets, car boot sales and online platforms. It told residents to “be wary” of goods sold at unusually low prices, poorly packaged items, and goods that do not display appropriate safety information.
