Hull FC back rower Jed Cartwright has joined Super League side St Helens on loan for the next month with a view of completing a permanent transfer.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at the Black and Whites at end of the year, and as revealed by former Hull head coach John Cartwright back in April, that contract wasn’t getting renewed into the 2027 season and beyond.
Therefore, Hull have granted Cartwright a loan move to the Saints with immediate effect – with Hull Live understanding the deal has progressed rapidly over the last 24 hours.
The club signed Cartwright from NRL outfit Newcastle Knights back in June 2024. However, injuries have restricted his time on the field to just 23 appearances. The player recently returned from a long hamstring lay-off, with the Magic Weekend derby game against Hull KR seemingly his last appearance for the club.
A club statement read: “Hull FC can confirm that Jed Cartwright has joined St Helens on loan. The back-rower has joined the Saints for an initial one-month loan spell, with a view to a permanent transfer.
“The back-rower, who joined Hull FC in 2024, has made 23 appearances for the club. The club would like to thank Jed for his efforts in black and white, and wish him the best of luck for his future in the sport.”
Meanwhile, Hull take on York Knights in North Yorkshire this Thursday night. They have Ethan O’Neill back in the side, with the Leeds Rhinos player expected to sign a permanent deal with the club. Joe Batchelor and Lennon Clark are also in the fold.
