Hull FC’s Jake Arthur celebrates scoring his side’s first try at Magic Weekend
Hull FC interim boss Andy Last believes Jake Arthur is finding his feet in Super League after another impressive display last weekend.
Arthur was awarded man of the match in defeat on Saturday at Magic Weekend as the Black and Whites lost 26-12 to Hull KR at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The Australian scored Hull’s first try of the day before setting up the second with a well-timed pass over the top for Tom Briscoe to touch down in the corner.
He kicked well, looked a threat with the ball in hand and posed problems of the defensive line which is something he has done consistently for a number of weeks.
Arthur visibly struggled to adapt to life in Super League during the early stages of the season and the injuries he struggled during that period didn’t help.
However, he has grown to become a key man under Andy Last and the stand-in head coach is delighted with the form is showing in a Hull shirt.
“I think Jake’s form the last two months has been good,” Last said on his number six, who penned a two-year deal with the club after agreeing to join from Newcastle Knights. “He’s finding his feet in Super League. He’s made the decision to come over from the NRL, he’s still only young.
“He’s got his dad over here which is helping him settle in a little bit quicker, he’s finding his voice and controlling our team. He kicks the ball well, his temperament is good and I thought he had a really strong game today.”
