A council flat has been closed for three months after a court heard neighbours were being intimidated by a stream of visitors climbing in through a first-floor window
A council flat that was being accessed by people using a ladder to perform alleged drug deals has been given a full closure order by magistrates. Neighbours close to the flat, on Haworth Walk in Bridlington, reported antisocial behaviour, intimidation of residents and continual noise disturbances.
Nearby residents also reported alleged theft, criminal damage and drug dealing. No one except council officers, police, emergency services, and utility providers, is permitted to enter the first-floor flat for three months. Anyone found entering or remaining at the property without a reasonable excuse could face a fine, and even prison.
Magistrates dished out the order at Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 24. The court heard there had been a large stream of visitors which intimidated other residents.
A Misuse of Drugs Act warrant had also been executed at the property, where it was reported visitors accessed a first-floor window via a ladder at all hours. The order application came after an East Riding of Yorkshire Council investigation, which included a street surgery and door knocking on nearby properties.
Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection said: “We’re dedicated to taking firm action against antisocial behaviour and ensuring that the East Riding remains a good place to live. We encourage residents to report antisocial behaviour in their area, so that the council can investigate and take appropriate action.”
More information about how to report antisocial behaviour can be found at www.eastriding.gov.uk/anti-social-behaviour . Anti-social behaviour can also be reported to the council by calling 01482 396380.
