Stacey Duffy aims to raise as much as she can for The Brain Tumour Charity

An appeal has been made by a Goole mum living with a brain tumour who wants to create the “glitteriest” Halloween Charity Ball this year in aid of the charity that has supported her. Not content with running and walking for The Brain Tumour Charity, Stacey Duffy has now set her sights on pulling off a fundraising ball that falls on All Hallows’ Eve.
Rather than the more traditional dress-up in spooky costumes for October 31, teaching assistant Stacey is going down the “glitter” route so that everyone has a chance to shine in their best outfits. Now she is looking for help with entertainment, donations of raffle prizes, Halloween decorations and more to make the event, at The Grange, Rawcliffe Road, Goole, a spectacular date.
“I’m reaching out to anyone, so that it makes the running of the ball as cheap as I can get it and means as much of the money raised as possible goes to the charity,” said Stacey. “I’ve got a DJ now, which is fantastic; I’m wondering if there are any bands, musicians or comedians out there who would like to help with the entertainment.
“There are also tables still available – there are only 100 seats on the night – if anyone would like to buy tickets. I’m encouraging people to dress in the colours of the charity – black, red, white and turquoise blue – which are a bit Halloweeny anyway.
“Tickets cost £55 each and include a three-course meal, complimentary drinks on arrival, and there will definitely be music. I’ve got someone who has said they will come along first thing and do an acoustic set and obviously there are lots of other things still in the pipeline.
“It will be a case of seeing what people can offer. I’ve had some really good raffle donations already, including a signed boxing glove from Tommy Coyle, and I’m hoping to get something from Hull City.”
The Halloween Charity Glitter Ball will run from 6pm to midnight on October 31. Anyone who would like a table for ten people can secure it for a £100 deposit, with the remaining balance of £455 to be paid by September 1.
In a post about the event, Stacey said she wanted to create “an unforgettable, spooktacular night, all while raising vital funds for a cause very close to our hearts: The Brain Tumour Charity”. Asking if any businesses might be prepared to sponsor elements of the evening, Stacey said: “I have so much excitement planned for this night … Let’s make this a night to remember and raise as much as we possibly can for The Brain Tumour Charity.”
Stacey was diagnosed with optic nerve meningioma in 2021. She underwent a craniotomy the same year and as a result lost the sight in her right eye.
Last October, she had radiosurgery to hopefully stop the tumour from growing any more and is having regular, routine check-ups and “keeping her fingers crossed”. Stacey works with SEN children at Delta Academy, Goole and is a wife and a mum to one son.
Her connections to The Brain Tumour Charity began shortly after her diagnosis. “They provided a community when I felt most isolated, offering resources that bridged the gap between medical treatment and emotional recovery,” she previously said.
Stacey started to experience symptoms of a “fuzzy head, like when you’ve been drinking” and migraines which she thought were brought on by stress at work. When she got a “weird sensation” in her eye and “kind of lost focus”, she went to her optician, who found the tumour.
Stacey has signed up for the Manchester Marathon next April, planning to run it with her son. She said she liked to always have something to focus on and wanted to “give back”.
