Lelley Fields is holding an open day

Lelley Fields Crematorium is opening its doors to invite people to a special event later this summer. The venue, in Sproatley Road, Preston, is welcoming people to attend an open day offering a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at the crematorium.
The open day, on Saturday, July 11, follows on from a midsummer memorial service, held earlier this month. The site’s Oak Hall hosted visitors on June 18 and gave them chance to remember and pay their respects to loved ones they have lost and to pay tribute if they wished to.
As part of the service, names and photos of those being remembered were displayed on a television screen in the hall, if loved ones so chose. They were also invited to add those names or short messages onto paper leaves, to be hung on memorial trees inside the hall.
At a later date, the leaves – which are biodegradable and infused with wildflower seeds – will be planted in the crematorium grounds, where they will grow into a lasting wildflower display. The crematorium’s open day will run from 9.30am to 1.30pm and staff will be giving guided tours, people can chat with local funeral directors and other industry professionals, enjoy informative talks and refreshments.
The event is free to attend and open to all, whether or not you have used the crematorium before. Councillor Paul West, East Riding Council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Lelley Fields is a very friendly, welcoming place and I’m really pleased people will get to see that as it opens its doors.
“Maybe you’re curious to see how a crematorium works and have questions you’ve always wanted to know. Please come along.”
