Rovers beat Leigh 22-8 on Friday despite frustrating at times

Hull KR picked up two valuable points on Friday night against Leigh Leopards but Willie Peters believes they were way below their best at Craven Park.
The Robins won 22-8 in east Hull to move up to within two points of Super League’s top two, but it was far from the complete performance from Peters’ side.
Both sides made a habit of spilling the ball, with the humid conditions perhaps playing a role in that, but Rovers were scrappy and made uncharacteristic errors throughout the contest, despite getting over the line.
As such, while Peters was pleased with how resolute his side were in defence, he wants to see them make improvements with the ball in hand and fast.
“I thought we started really well,” Peters said on the game. “I was happy with our start, I thought we were dominating and then we made life tough for ourselves.
“Every try we scored we didn’t complete the next set. You have to complete the next set, that’s the most important thing to do off the back of scoring points, making sure you get to your kick or get a penalty, and we didn’t do that.
“There was those errors but there was a lot of errors in and around that and that put a lot of pressure on our defence. I was happy with the way we defended, I thought we looked comfortable for the most part of that game but we put too much pressure on ourselves.
“Both teams are better than what they produced tonight, from a spectacle point of view it wouldn’t have been great.”
Replicate Friday’s performance at Headingley next week and KR might struggle to achieve the same result, with Leeds two points clear at the summit of the division after their win over Warrington Wolves earlier this week.
“We have to improve a lot and I’m confident that we will. It was a performance that wasn’t great but we still found a way and that’s a pretty good sign to be able to beat a team like Leigh and still score a fair few points,” Peters added. “As much as I’m saying next week is a step up in terms of where Leeds are at at the moment
“They’ve impressed me all year, they’ve been the form team all season and that shows on the ladder. I like the brand they play, it’s no secret what Brad likes, being physical and aggression and we need to make sure that we match that.”
