Rovers were without Jez Litten on Friday night when they took on Leigh Leopards

Willie Peters has high hopes that the knock Joe Burgess took during Hull KR’s win over Leigh Leopards on Friday night isn’t as bad as first feared.

Burgess scored the first try of the night for the Robins and he impressed in the first half to set KR on their way to a 22-8 win over the Leopards.

However, the winger left the field in the second half at Craven Park with an injury that looked to have been a shoulder.

Peters skirted around the injury after the game, failing to explain what the injury was, but he did reveal that the first signs were positive.

“I don’t think it’s too bad,” Peters told the press after the game. “We’ll wait and see what happens in the next couple of days but from the first reports it’s not too bad.”

KR were also without hooker Jez Litten against the Leopards with the hooker struggling with an ankle complaint. Litten failed to train in the week and Peters stopped short of confirming he would be back in contention for next week’s game against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley.

“Jez didn’t train the other day when I had media so then it was just a matter of seeing where he was at but he didn’t improve through the week,” he said. “Pretty much from the next day we decided he wasn’t going to get there.

“It’s just ligaments, he had a lot of swelling but there’s nothing major. He’s been for scans.

“It’s hard to say at the moment [whether he’ll be back], I’m hopeful but he was still limping late this week so he needs to improve. The injury that he’s got can improve quickly because it’s not a major injury so it’s just once that swelling goes down. We’ve got a week.”
