Jack Broadbent opens up on a whirlwind few weeks at Hull KR.

Jack Broadbent has opened up on the harsh realities of professional sport after losing his Hull KR spot – only to find himself back in the Wembley spotlight days later.

Broadbent has been drafted back into Hull KR’s starting XIII following the latest injury setback to Arthur Mourgue. The French full-back has been ruled out long term after suffering another pectoral injury on his comeback from a three-month lay-off.

Mourgue’s return had briefly pushed Broadbent to the bench for the Round 11 clash against Leigh, but the 25-year-old is now set for another spell as Hull KR’s No.1.

Broadbent has revealed details of conversations with head coach Willie Peters after admitting how difficult it was to lose his place despite helping the Robins climb the Super League table.

“It is tough when you’re playing well, but you’ve got to get on with it,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Willie Peters said in training that you’ve got to crack on and put your best foot forward. Anything can happen in this game, and I’m back in this week [against Wigan in Round 12].

“It was a tough one to take, but you’ve got to keep your head up and have good people around you. It can be a cruel game, but you’ve got to keep going. We’re in a final now and I’ll be playing full-back.”

Broadbent will have a second shot at Wembley glory on Saturday, having also been a part of the Hull KR side that lifted the prestigious trophy and ended the club’s long wait for silverware last season over Warrington Wolves. He played ahead of Mourgue, who was cup-tied following his season move from Catalans Dragons.

After Hull KR’s Super League Round 12 win over a heavily rotated Wigan side, Broadbent added: “I’m all good and ready to go next week. I’m looking forward to it.

“It can be a cruel game at times – for Arthur, who is a really good mate of mine. It’s not what you want to see, but it gives me the chance to go and play that role.”
