Tom Briscoe impressed on his 200th Hull FC appearance.

Hull FC produced a gritty and courageous display at Leigh Leopards on Friday night – albeit in defeat as the Leythers ran out 42-6 winners.

And while the result looks ugly, there is some context, with Hull’s squad, seven of which were aged 21 or under, depleted and down to it’s bare bones, running with 16 out against an opponent finding their groove again. Here are the ratings:

Logan Moy – The young full-back stood up tall again. Linked into the line well, especially in the first half, and was a threat. Also fronted up in defence at times in another performance where he can hold his head up high. 7

Harvey Barron – Worked hard but an error or two would have frustrated him. One break in the second half that Hull didn’t finish off on the next play. 5

Lloyd Kemp – In the centre and stood up throughout with some strong surging runs. Still looks so young but has the heart of a lion. A really courageous display and made some inroads. 7

Ben Johnson – In for his first team debut and had some moments with and without the ball. Never backed down. 6

Tom Briscoe – The veteran winger made his 200th Hull appearance and was one of the side’s best. Carried strong, supported well, and was busy throughout the game. 7

Callum Kemp – The young half shaped up dangerously in the first half and looked to move the ball. Some really good pass selections. Promising. Naturally faded as Hull were more starved of field position in the second half. 6

Jake Arthur – A disrupted game with an early HIA, but he passed to come back on soon after. Could have done better after Barron’s break, but linked well at times. A better and more controlled display. 5

Jeremiah Mata’utia – The prop had to play big minutes and his lack of Super League experience maybe showed at times. He never shirked the workload, though. 5

Cade Cust – The Aussie was energetic and tried to get Hull going. Produced the try for Hardaker. 5

Harvie Hill – He won’t be a stat lovers cup of tea but he worked hard and tried to put himself about. An improved display on last week. 5

Joe Batchelor – Worked hard and got stuck in defensively. 5

Ethan O’Neill – Up against his former club and got involved. 5

Zak Hardaker – In the loose-forward position and did his best. Tenacious. Gritty. Workmanlike. He doesn’t know any other way. He’s been an outstanding signing. 7

Hugo Salabio – Off the bench and into the action in his first Super League game of the year. Did okay. 5

Will Hutchinson – The young hooker had an HIA in the first half but passed to play two stints. Tried to get Hull flowing. 5

Will Kirby – A first appearance of the season. Another do it tough with an HIA but again got stuck in and never backed down. 5

Lennon Clark – A Super League debut for the back-rower, who came on and got immediately involved. Looked energetic and enthusiastic, too good traits to have. 5
