Beloved Hull comedian Lucy Beaumont is set to appear on Saturday Kitchen this weekend
Hull comedian Lucy Beaumont is a much-loved figure in British comedy – but do you know who her famous mother and former husband are?
The 42-year-old Hull native reached the finals of So You Think You’re Funny in 2011 and claimed victory at the BBC Radio New Comedy Awards the following year. Her debut Edinburgh Fringe show in 2014, We Can Twerk It Out, earned a nomination for that year’s Best Newcomer Award.
Channel 4 then commissioned her comedy series Hullraisers in 2021, which Lucy co-wrote alongside Anne-Marie O’Connor and Caroline Moran.
Last year, Lucy ventured to the Scottish Highlands to participate in the inaugural series of Celebrity Traitors, which was ultimately won by Alan Carr. Claudia Winkleman assigned Lucy the role of Faithful, but she was eventually murdered in a face-to-face killing by Traitors Alan, Cat Burns, and Jonathan Ross.
Lucy is due to appear on Saturday Kitchen later today (May 2). The latest instalment of the programme, hosted by Matt Tebbutt, will also feature chefs Vivek Singh and Donna Hay, alongside wine expert Olly Smith. Ahead of her appearance, fans may be intrigued to discover that Lucy has a very famous mother and ex-husband, reports the Express.
Who is Lucy Beaumont’s famous mum?
Lucy’s mother is acclaimed playwright Gill Adams, who notably scooped the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s Best New Play prize back in 1997.
Gill boasts an extensive career spanning television and radio, having contributed to much-loved British programmes such as Emmerdale and Doctors. She also portrayed a fictionalised version of herself in Lucy’s popular show Meet the Richardsons.
The mother-daughter pair are set to collaborate once more, with Lucy revealing earlier this year that she is developing a travel programme alongside her mum. The series is currently in development, though it is yet to be picked up.
Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast, Lucy told host Kate Thornton: “I just find it fascinating that I’m just so sure that with the amount of telly I’ve done now and how funny my mum is, if we were men, we would be in our second or third series. Now I’m so sure of it… I’m not just being flippant. I’m pretty sure about it… I think there’s still just a long way to go.”
Lucy Beaumont’s split from comedian husband
Many followers will be aware that Lucy was previously married to fellow stand-up Jon Richardson, having been introduced through their mutual friend Roisin Conaty. Following two years of dating, the couple tied the knot in April 2015.
Their daughter, Elsie, arrived in 2016 via an emergency C-section — a traumatic ordeal that left Lucy fearing she might not survive.
Lucy and Jon famously appeared alongside one another in Meet the Richardsons, portraying a fictionalised version of their real-life relationship. The programme, which spanned five series, appeared to come to an end following the couple’s separation in April 2024.
The comedy pair revealed the conclusion of their nine-year marriage, leaving supporters shocked. When questioned about the separation, Lucy said: “People might think I should talk about it because we were so public and everyone knew us as a couple, but I won’t, and not because there’s any animosity. We both agreed that while it might be weird for other people not hearing about it, we wouldn’t talk about anything to do with the marriage or each other.”
Earlier this week, it emerged that Lucy would be taking part in a new series of The Great Celebrity Pottery Throw Down, presented by Liza Tarbuck.
Six famous faces, each with minimal pottery expertise, will tackle the clay and attempt the wheel in a series of ambitious ceramic tasks. Lucy will feature alongside Fatiha El-Ghorri, Richard Herring, Paul Merson, Layton Williams, and Denise Van Outen.
In a departure from the beloved original format, there will be no weekly elimination. Instead, the six celebrity participants will dedicate themselves to the pottery studio, acquiring and honing their abilities over five episodes under the mentorship of judges Keith Brymer Jones and Rich Miller. The celebrities will battle for points in each task hoping to secure a spot in the grand final, where only one of them will be crowned as the winner.
Saturday Kitchen airs weekly on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 10am
