Rovers head to Doncaster next weekend as they bid to book their spot in the Challenge Cup final

Hull KR have the luxury of a nine-day turnaround going into next week’s Challenge Cup semi-final and Willie Peters will use it wisely.

The Robins thrashed Castleford Tigers on Thursday night on the back of just five days’ preparation as they rolled from the win over Bradford Bulls last Saturday into the Castleford game and got the job done.

However, they have the small matter of a Challenge Cup semi to prepare for now, with Warrington Wolves their opponents at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster. KR aren’t about to take the Wolves, who they beat in last year’s final at Wembley, lightly, particularly given the impressive way in which Warrington have started the season under Sam Burgess.

They have the bonus of having two more days to rest up, recover and prepare though, and Peters will give his players some time off over the weekend.

They’ll then have a couple of training sessions at Craven Park, while the Robins are also set to travel to Doncaster later in the week to have a look at the surface they’ll be playing on and get used to their surroundings in South Yorkshire.

All that comes before the club make the journey to Doncaster again on Sunday and they’ll hope to have the opportunity to celebrate reaching what would be a third Challenge Cup final in four years under Peters.

“It is what it is,” Peters said when asked about the lengthy turnaround between games. “The players will have a few days off now and we’ll have two good sessions throughout the week which I think we need.

“I was comfortable having the five days this time around and I’m comfortable having a longer turnaround going into the semi-final.”

Incidentally, Warrington travel to Huddersfield Giants this evening and they’ll be bidding to leapfrog KR in the league table and push on towards a return to the top two of Super League.
