Hull KR beat Castleford Tigers 50-6 on Thursday night

Willie Peters believes Hull KR turned in one of their best performances of the season to see off Castleford Tigers on Thursday night.

The Robins beat Castleford 50-6 at Craven Park, scoring nine tries along the way, and in doing so they claimed their sixth win on the spin in all competitions.

Tom Davies scored a hat-trick on the day, with the winger taking two of efforts extremely well, while Karl Lawton grabbed a first-half brace.

Dean Hadley, Tom Amone, Joe Burgess and Mikey Lewis also got over on what was a one-sided evening in east Hull and while Peters was delighted to see his side rack up another big score, he was most pleased with his side’s defensive efforts, particularly after the break.

“I’m really pleased, I thought the start was really strong,” Peters said after the game. “We made a change and we started Karl Lawton at nine just to give Jez a bit of a rest, but also for Karl to bring some energy and I thought he did that, he started the game really strong.

“We got to 18 points but I still thought we didn’t get the tries easy, we had to build and earn it.

“Last week we started to overplay a little bit once we got to 24-0 and it was probably there a little bit tonight at times but we just got down and up and played the ball and that’s where we built the pressure off the back of that.

“Most pleased with defending our tryline for a large part of that second half. Really pleased with that block there.

“It was a little bit scrappy but that can happen. It’s close to one of our better performances of the year.”

Asked about KR ‘s attack after racking up big scores against York Knights, Toulouse Olympique, Bradford Bulls and now Castleford in successive games, Peters added: “It comes from our defence. Our defence sets up our attack, it’s not the other way around, we don’t look at our attack first.

“We know if we build enough pressure and put fatigue in the opponents we have the players to score points and we’ve shown that in the last few weeks.”
