We were invited to look around Queen’s Gardens in Hull city centre ahead of its much-anticipated reopening. The site is set to reopen next month after undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment since 2022.

Work in the gardens has included the surrounding walls being rebuilt and full refurbishments to each of the gardens’ three ponds. The refurbishment, funded by Hull City Council, also includes a redesigned Peace Garden towards the Hull College end of the site.

Throughout the gardens, homage is paid to the site’s former life as a dock. Maritime-themed elements are scattered across the site.

The project is seen as being a key part of the city’s Maritime Trail. Queen’s Gardens will act as a link between Hull’s Maritime Museum and the upcoming visitor attraction at the North End Shipyard – where the Arctic Corsair will soon call home.
