The new buses will be on the roads from next month
East Yorkshire Buses has unveiled a new fleet of electric buses. 27 new British-built buses will soon be seen on routes across Hull, Hessle, and Cottingham.
A joint investment of £16.5m through the Government’s ZEBRA (Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas) initiative will see the new vehicles delivered to East Yorkshire Buses. The funding partnership includes Hull City Council, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and East Yorkshire Buses, part of the Go-Ahead Group. From April, the new buses will operate on routes 56, 57, and 58.
The buses were unveiled at The Deep on March 24. The event, dubbed ‘Shock the Dock,’ was attended by a number of local figures including the Mayor Luke Campbell and the leader of East Riding Council Cllr Anne Handley.
From March 30, Mr Campbell’s Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority will officially assume transport responsibilities for the region. During a speech at the event, the Mayor said the new buses are “a step in the right direction,” adding “the next stop is improving services across Hull and East Yorkshire.”

The Managing Director of East Yorkshire Buses, Matthew Ashton said: “It was over 125 years ago that the first electric trams took to the streets of Hull. And now today, on March 24, 2026, electric transport returns once again as we add another chapter to the long and proud history. This is a cleaner one, a quieter one, and one that’s both fit for today and ready for the future.”
Also speaking at the event was Alistair Timmis, the Confederation of Passenger Transport’s North of England’s Deputy Regional Manager. He said: “These vehicles will help to reduce emissions, lower environmental impact through air pollution, and provide a smoother more comfortable journey for everybody. The vehicles aren’t just vehicles, they’re about to become a part of the fabric of the local community, part of the street-scene at that we’ll all witness day in and day out in this area.”
