The free event has grown to be hugely popular in recent years

The vibrant colours of the Bridlington Kite Festival are set to transform the East Yorkshire skyline once again as the event prepares for its 11th year. Scheduled for the weekend of Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May, the festival has established itself as a popular springtime attraction, drawing thousands of spectators to the Sewerby Cliff Top.

Between 10am and 5pm each day, Bridlington bay will serve as a backdrop for an extraordinary array of kites ranging from professional displays to some of the world’s largest inflatable creations. Visitors can expect to see massive bears and slithering snakes among the many shapes and sizes taking flight. The event remains entirely free to enter and is designed for all members of the family, including dogs provided they are kept on leads.

Beyond the visual displays, the weekend features the return of the popular parachuting teddy bear drops. For those inspired by the professionals, there will be supervised sessions where visitors can fly loaned kites, while others may choose to purchase their own from kite stalls. The atmosphere will be bolstered by a variety of street food trucks, dessert stalls, fairground rides, and other family-oriented entertainment.

Visitors are advised that several road closures will be in place in Sewerby village throughout the event. The nearest car parks are Sewerby Picnic Car Park, Sewerby Road, Bridlington, YO15 1ER and Limekiln Lane Car Park, Limekiln Lane, Bridlington, YO15 2LX. Visitors can also arrive via the land train, which runs between Sewerby Hall & Gardens and Bridlington Leisure Centre every half hour.
