Willie Peters on Hull KR’s form and his side’s plans for Catalans Dragons away.
Willie Peters says it’s too early to draw conclusions about Hull KR‘s form after one of the most chaotic starts to a season in recent memory.
The Robins have finally settled into the weekly rhythm of Super League – and the Challenge Cup – on familiar soil after the World Club Challenge and their trip to Las Vegas.
They backed up their first league win of the year over Huddersfield Giants with another dominant display over Luke Robinson’s injury-hit side to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.
Hull KR ran in nine tries against a Giants outfit without 15 first-team players due to injury, but the Rovers boss insists it’s far too early to judge where his team really stand.
“You can only play what’s in front of you,” Peters said.
“We got beaten by York, then we were on top of the world after beating Brisbane Broncos before being brought down to earth against Leeds in a massive way. Off the back of that we’ve had two wins.
“After 10 rounds, you know where you’re at so I’m not reading too much into it at the moment.
“We’re certainly nowhere near our peak or at the top of our game, which I think is a good sign. We know we need to keep improving to make sure we reach it.”
Hull KR are still yet to play a Super League game at home this season and will next head to the south of France to take on Catalans Dragons, who have started the year with two wins from four under Joel Tomkins.
Confirming his side’s plans for the trip to Perpignan, Peters said: “We go on Wednesday, so we have that extra day.
“It’s an important game for us, and it gives the guys an opportunity to have a day off when we’re over there.
“We’ll train Wednesday, fly, and then have a day off and recover, captain’s run and then play. We feel it’s going to be the best chance to go out and perform. We’ve given guys some time off, given what they’ve done and gone through, the players need to recover.”
