A new Irish bar in Hull is hosting what “could be the biggest St Patrick’s celebration Hull has ever seen”. Molly Mangan’s, which opened in Newland Avenue late last year, has already seen “capacity crowds” at the start of its nine-day Paddy’s Week over the weekend.
St Patrick’s Day itself, on Tuesday, will be the biggest day of all with five live performances and a late-night after party. Live music begins at 6pm with Freddie Ellis, followed by Nick Rooke & Paul Blackburn at 7.30pm and Hillbilly Troupe from 8.30pm. An 11pm after-party set from Jack Robertson will take celebrations past midnight.
Before then, ‘Paddy’s Day Eve’ on Monday will see a performance from Connor Penson between 8pm and 10pm. Owner Jack Mangan said the atmosphere so far has been “unbelievable”. He added: “We genuinely think this could be the biggest St Patrick’s celebration Hull has ever seen. The support has been incredible.
“We’ve had capacity crowds, big singalongs and a real mix of ages all enjoying it together.”
The celebrations continue throughout the week, including Musical Bingo on Wednesday and a sing-around finale on Saturday.
Since opening in December, the bar has established itself as a live music hub in Newland Avenue with traditional Irish music performed alongside modern acoustic acts and crowd favourites. Entry is free seven days a week.
