Another selection issue for Huddersfield Giants on top of their injury woes.
Huddersfield Giants face another selection issue for their Challenge Cup fourth round tie with Hull KR, adding to their ongoing injury nightmare.
George Flanagan and Matty English are two of the latest casualties for the Giants following their 32-6 defeat to Hull KR, alongside knocks to Kieran Rush and Oliver Russell.
The struggling Super League outfit will also be without Tanguy Zenon this week, with the outside-back cup-tied. The 23-year-old previously featured in the Challenge Cup for Halifax Panthers before the club’s demise and his subsequent move to Huddersfield. He appeared in ties against London Chargers and Goole Vikings for the Championship side in the competition.
Huddersfield are also without the likes of Sam Hewitt, Sam Halsall, Adam Clune, Adam Swift and Zac Woolford, taking the total number of sidelined players to 14.
“What you can do when you’re losing games is change the side and make some adjustments, but we just don’t have the scope to do that,” head coach Luke Robinson said.
“We’ve picked up all those injuries, and Tanguy Zenon is cup-tied. We brought him in from Halifax to give us some depth in the outside-backs. We’ve got that many out, but he can’t play this week.
“There won’t be many changes. The squad we’ve got is the squad we’ve got – and we might have to bring some reserve players in.
“All we can do is dust ourselves down, look at the positives and the effort we’re putting in, and fix some of the things we’re doing wrong.”
Robinson admitted he and assistant coaches Leroy Cudjoe and Liam Finn even had to join training during the week to make up numbers. However, he has all but ruled out a return to the field for Cudjoe, who retired at the end of 2025.
The club meanwhile have added former Warrington Wolves outside-back Connor Wrench to their squad, on a deal until the end of 2028.
“Look, I’d like to think not, to be completely honest,” Robinson said when asked about Cudjoe potentially putting the boots back on.
“He’s now part of the coaching staff and proving to be a really good coach in his own right. He’s phenomenal and he’ll keep improving.
“But there are some young lads we’ve got high hopes for – the likes of Lewis Jagger, who made his debut last year at Leigh Leopards – but he’s injured as well. The ones waiting in the wings are injured. I think there are 14 out now, but there are some young lads who could get an opportunity.”
