Waters’ Edge Country Park has received investment to make improvements
A fresh chapter is beginning at a much-loved local landmark. Waters’ Edge Country Park & Visitor Centre has received significant new investment to mark its 20th anniversary.
Having spent two decades at the heart of Barton’s natural landscape, the centre has established itself as a free, family-friendly destination. It remains a key site for outdoor discovery, offering accessible trails and hands-on exhibits that allow people of all ages to enjoy nature together.
The upcoming programme of work is designed to make the centre more comfortable, more engaging and better for the environment. Plans include refreshed exhibition displays, renewed outdoor decking and the installation of more efficient heating systems.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We are committed to investing in the places that matter most to our communities. By backing destinations like Waters’ Edge, we are supporting local pride, encouraging visitors and strengthening a tourism offer that is sustainable for the future.”
Work started recently with the removal of the existing decking. In April, the centre will see the installation of new exhibition displays, which will offer refreshed content and an enhanced experience for visitors.

Further work is scheduled throughout the spring and summer, including the introduction of ground source heating. This upgrade aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact while ensuring the indoor environment remains comfortable year-round. Replacement decking will also be fitted during this period.
Cllr Christine Patterson, cabinet member for healthy lives and places, said: “Waters’ Edge has been a much-loved place for people to enjoy nature, learn about the local environment and spend time together for 20 years. This investment will enhance the experience for visitors, improve comfort within the building and help ensure the centre remains welcoming and accessible for years to come.”
