Hull KR forward Karl Lawton dealt hefty suspension as RFL hand out five bans

Hull KR forward Karl Lawton has been handed a three game suspension from the RFL’s Match Review Panel and will miss this weekend’s Challenge Cup tie at Huddersfield Giants – a repeat of Sunday’s Super League fixture.

The new Robins recruit has received a Grade E dangerous contact charge for a cannonball tackle on Huddersfield forward Matty English. He was sin binned at the time and alongside his three game ban, the Aussie has been handed 22 penalty points and a fine.

Lawton – who will also miss Rovers’ league games against Catalans Dragons and St Helens – is one of five players to receive suspensions, with a further dozen charged.

Elsewhere, Bradford Bulls forward Elliot Peposhi has been hit with a three game ban for his red card challenge on St Helens prop George Delaney. Peposhi was sent off at the time and has now copped a Grade E head contact charge. He has also been handed 21 penalty points and a fine.

There are also two more bans handed out following the Saints-Bulls clash, with Saints forward Joe Shorrocks and Bradford man Loghan Lewis receiving two game bans.

Shorrocks was sin binned at the time and has now been handed a Grade D dangerous contact charge. He has been handed 12 penalty points. Lewis has also been hit with a Grade D dangerous contact charge totalling 15 penalty points and a fine.

The final suspension goes to Catalans Dragons outside back Nick Cotric. The Aussie has been penalised for a Grade C shoulder charge offence and will miss Catalans’ cup clash against Oldham this weekend.

Additional to five suspensions, the MRP has handed out 12 charges. They include Wakefield Trinity trio Caleb Hamlin-Uele, Jay Pitts, and Jazz Tevaga, Leigh prop Owen Trout, and Cotric once more.

Elsewhere, Leigh’s Jack Hughes, Toulouse’s Romeo Tropis, Bradford’s Ryan Sutton, St Helens’ David Klemmer, and Leeds’ Maika Sivo have all been charged. Castleford half-back Deajarn Asi has also been charged twice.
