The Blades sit 11 points behind the Tigers with 10 games to go

Chris Wilder wants Sheffield United to replicate the form of Hull City this season as he looks to try and mastermind a late surge towards the top six.

Despite a horror start to the season which saw ex-Tigers boss Ruben Selles sacked, the Blades are eight points adrift of the top six with 10 games to go.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to struggling West Brom was a disappointing result for United, with three of the five teams above them having a game in hand.

Wilder has pointed to City, who have enjoyed a fine season in the Championship despite suffering their fourth defeat in six games at home to Millwall on Saturday, and are sitting fifth ahead of Tuesday night’s crunch visit to Wrexham.

At times this season, City have been clinical in front of goal and won games when perhaps, the stats would sometimes say they were second best, something that Wilder has highlighted.

“I totally understood we needed to go and get that second goal because one [1-0] is a dangerous scoreline. But we have got to find a way to win as well and we didn’t,” the Blades boss said after being held by the struggling Baggies, who host City at The Hawthorns this weekend.

“Other teams this season, teams that are above us, like Wrexham, they’re finding a way to win at the moment. Hull, I know they have got beat (3-1 at home against Millwall), but they have found a way to win all season.

“If you look at their xG (expected goals) for and against, but they have got the know-how and the knowledge to find a way. We should have found that situation and found a way to win a game.”
