‘The biggest changes weren’t physical. I found confidence again.’
A woman from east Hull whose confidence was once so low she was afraid to be seen on the school run is now set to lead a Slimming World group after a remarkable transformation – both inside and out.
Danielle, from Bransholme, said she struggled with an endless cycle of weight loss followed by gain, and felt like she was trapped in a “loop I couldn’t escape”. At her heaviest, she weighed 16st 2.5lb.
Struggling with her self-esteem, Danielle saw her world shrink as she avoided leaving the house wherever possible. “I dreaded shops, social events, even school gates,” she said.
“I was convinced people were staring, judging, laughing. I didn’t recognise the woman in the mirror, and the voice in my head constantly reminded me that I wasn’t good enough.”
Danielle said her mental health suffered and she lived with anxiety and depression for years. But her life was changed when she met Slimming World consultant Craig, and a “spark I thought had gone out forever flickered back to life”.
She said: “From the very first session, something was different. He didn’t talk about food like it was punishment or restriction. He talked about possibility. About chicken pizza wraps. Chilli con carne. Full English breakfasts.”
She added: “More than that, Craig made me feel safe. No judgement. No shame. Just understanding. He helped me see the invisible barriers I’d been carrying for years.”
Danielle started to open up more to other Slimming World members and stopped feeling so isolated. “Together, we became stronger,” she said. “We laughed. We cried. We lifted each other when one of us couldn’t stand alone.”

After years of doubting her self-worth, Danielle said she started to believe she could make the changes. She said: “I set a real goal and trusted myself to reach it.
“Three stone gone. Just one stone to target. But the biggest changes weren’t physical. I found confidence again. Control. Self-belief. I felt like ‘me’ for the first time in years.”
As the pounds dropped off, Danielle hit the realisation “my journey was never just about weight loss”. She said: “It’s about proving that no matter how stuck, low or lost you feel, change is possible. That you are never weak for struggling. That you are not alone.”
Danielle said she also realised she wanted to help other achieve that same realisation, and set to work training to become a Slimming World consultant. Craig was promoted to Regional Manager, and she has now stepped in to lead the group.
Her message to others is simple: “You deserve to feel happy, healthy – and proud of yourself again.” Danielle is relaunching the group where she lost her weight in on Saturday 21st March at 8am at The Pennine Church Grampian Way, HU7 5EF.
