The Tigers have dropped eight points from winning positions so far this term

Sergej Jakirovic says Hull City cannot afford to be ungrateful when it comes to some of their recent dropped points in the Championship.

As good as the Tigers’ start to the season has been, frustrations have been plentiful in the past couple of weeks with City conceding a 91st-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 with Charlton Athletic, before losing 2-1 at Derby County last Tuesday.

At Pride Park, City dragged themselves level and were dominant in the second half before Ivor Pandur and Semi Ajayi made a mess of a clearance and allowed the Rams to win the game.

City responded to that setback in fine fashion against Portsmouth, winning 3-2 to move into the Championship’s top six for the first time in nearly two years.

The goals they have been conceding have often been poor, with a certain soft underbelly from set-pieces, that’s added to the annoyance that their start could be even better than it has been, a sign of their stunning progress.

While City have dropped three points in the past three games, Jakirovic says his side must be realistic and understand that they’ve also ridden their luck at times, and be grateful for what they’ve got.

At Norwich City, the Tigers should have been behind after a woeful first half, but survived and then went on to win the game 2-0. At home to Sheffield United, City held on for a 1-0 win, having seen Harrison Burrows have an 87th-minute penalty saved by Pandur.

“We cannot be so ungrateful, I would say it like this, because, OK, in the 91st minute against Charlton, you control everything, then you concede a corner and a goal,” the Croatian told Hull Live.

“When you look back at Norwich, in the first half, you can be 3-0 behind. Sheffield United missed a penalty when Ivor (Pandur) made the save. I think during the season, everything in the end will be 50/50.”
