Keith Andrews praised Hull City for their display in earning a 1-1 draw against his Brentford side on Sunday afternoon, though he admitted his disappointment at some of his team’s performance

Andrews, the former City midfielder, watched on as Oli McBurnie guided in his first Premier League goal of the season after 24 minutes, after the Tigers were awarded a penalty for a foul on Tim Iroegbunam.

City wasted a number of good moments in the final third, and were punished when the Bees’ biggest threat, Dango Ouattara, tapped in from close range just after the hour after the ball fell kindly to him a yard out.

The result moved Sergej Jakirovic’s men onto 10 points after the opening nine games, while Brentford sit sixth, just a point above the Tigers.

“It was a tough game, and it was always going to be a tough game. I’ve got a lot of respect for Sergej and the journey he’s taken this team on – I think it’s been remarkable,” Andrews told Hull Live. “We reacted well at half-time, the impact from the bench was pretty good, but it was a tough game.

“We prepared for this game as diligently as we did for Liverpool or Aston Villa, we knew it was coming but I don’t think we dealt with it as well as we could have at times.

“With how we defended, we were tentative at times and not as aggressive on occasions as we usually are but the opposition play a part in that and they were pretty good on that front.

“We lacked a bit of cohesion at times in how we played, we’ve got very good players and good players on the bench and I think it’s important that when they come on they realise that they have to impact the game. It’s nice that they had that impact.”
