Here are the latest Hull and East Riding planning decisions and applications.

  1. Six empty garages in Hull are going to be demolished after planners at Hull City Council gave a demolition scheme the green light. The work will take place on a garage block on Acacia Drive in Hull, with six council built brick garages being knocked down.
  2. Hull City Council’s planners have turned down a retrospective planning application for a hand car wash at 955-965 Spring Bank West, in Hull. The application was to change the use of part of a car park into a hand car wash and to approve the construction of a modular building and canopy. But planners refused and stated: “The use as a hand car wash results in unreasonable adverse impacts upon the amenity of neighbouring occupants, particularly those on Calvert Road, who front a busy classified road. Cumulatively there would be little reprieve for local residents from disturbance for long periods throughout the day and week as a result of the proximity of the car wash, the hours of operations and existing ambient noise in the area.” Neighbours note daily loud music and noise from jet washers and also complained to planners about dirty water residue ruining enjoyment of gardens.
  3. Plans to change the use of a field into land suitable for keeping horses in Driffield have been refused by East Riding Council. The project hoped to use the land west of the York Road roundabout as a space for horses. This would have involved building a stable block, construction of hardstanding and alterations to an existing gate. But planners said no. Public comments noted concern about the size of the grazing area, worries about animal welfare, and noted that requests to remove work that have been carried out without planning permission have been ignored.
  4. A Hull tattoo parlour’s transformation into a coffee shop is waiting for a retrospective approval from Hull City Council. An application has been made for retrospective permission for the coffee shop at 210a Newland Avenue. Planning documents note that the building is around 100 years old and the application makes clear there are no plans to change the footprint of the building or alter the outside, other than signage.
  5. The Beverley Antiques & Collectors Centre is going to have its roof repaired and updated after East Riding Council gave a plan the go-ahead. The work on the listed building will involve external roof repairs, waterproofing and removal of non-historic sand and cement mortar. As part of the ambitious programme of works mortar joints will be repointed with lime-based mortar and coping stones will be rebedded. The project will also see removal of ivy from the brickwork of the popular antiques centre on Butcher Row, in Beverley.
  6. Planners are considering an idea to transform vacant office space in Hull into study spaces and classrooms. Ron Dearing University Technical College has submitted a vision for space in The Maltings, on Silvester Street in the city centre. Plans include the creation of five additional Sixth Form teaching classrooms, a dedicated Sixth Form Centre incorporating independent study facilities, social and collaborative learning spaces for post-16 students. Regeneration experts have welcomed the idea of further education establishments expanding into otherwise empty city centre buildings.
