A Methodist Chapel near the famous Bempton Cliffs could be transformed into a holiday let
- An eight-bed house in multiple occupation (HMO) is being developed in the Avenues area of Hull, after Hull City Council gave a planning application the go-ahead. It means number 9 Westbourne Avenue is being developed into a HMO, and as part of the scheme of works the large property will benefit from the installation of replacement doors.
- A sequoia tree in Hessle’s conservation area could have its crown lifted and reduced, if the authority gives the application the green light. The tree, which can grow to be extremely large if not pruned back, is one of the best plants at capturing carbon from the atmosphere. The application for the crown reduction is for a sequoia on Davenport Avenue and has been sent to the council because the tree is extending too far over a roof.
- A Methodist Chapel near the famous Bempton Cliffs could be transformed into a holiday let, if plans are agreed by East Riding Council. A planning application has been submitted to change the use of a storage building and former Methodist Chapel into a holiday let, which would mean increasing roof height, new door, windows and the installation of juliet balconies. Residents have until October 21st to provide comments on the plan for the property on Bolam Lane in Bempton, East Yorkshire.
- A horse chestnut tree in Hessle has been saved thanks to a tree protection order. Some local residents wanted the tree cut down and a smaller replacement tree planting because of root damage, branches breaking off in the wind, and significant access issues for vehicles. But planners at East Riding Council have denied permission for the works. A council statement said: “The tree appears to be in good health and makes a positive contribution to the overall amenity and general character of the area.” The tree protection order saved the tree, which also provides a green backdrop to the nearby King George V playing fields.
- A popular pub in Beverley is going to be repainted, after a scheme of improvements was given the green light by East Riding Council. The Sloop Inn, on Beckside in the East Yorkshire town, has been granted permission to be painted blue on the ground floor and cream on the first floor. The works will also include the installation of a non-illuminated fascia sign, an amenity board, five floodlights and two lanterns.
- And as previously reported, a micro-pub is being created in a former jewellers. The new pub will offer locally brewed real ales from smaller local suppliers in a distinctive and historic property on Saturday Market, in Beverley. East Riding Council has given the bold plan the green-light, with residents writing to the authority to welcome the idea. One local person told the council: ‘Repurposing this building, which appears to have stood empty for some time, can only be a positive step’.
